Blogging takes discipline - I am a KL-lite (getting there)

I am lazy...

That explains my disappearance from the virtual world for the past 2 months. I haven't even been keeping up with my work based blog on Blinklife.com...

So much has happened in the last few weeks I do not even know how to begin. But all these little thoughts were jostling in my head for space and I had to spill them out somewhere...so don't mind the incoherent mumbo jumbo.

It's been 3 months since I started my traineeship in KL. The first thought that comes to my mind is "Crap...I haven't really done anything!" I was prepared for the cultural aspect of being in another country (it's Malaysia..and I'm really Singaporean so it's not as big a difference as when I was in India). If U of M was a country, I am a proud Wolverine. :) Major shockers are when the Malay ladies try to cheat me when they realize I don't speak the local language (GRRR...) and the police raids that occur in the pirated DVD stores in Bangsar. The last time I was stuck in the middle of one, and had to wait patiently for the front shutters to reopen before getting let out. Quite fun! I love the food here...am starting to like Brickfields (ghetto area) alot more and enjoy the random conversations with the security guards in my condominium.

Just yesterday, I found out that the security guard in my block had worked there for 7 years, sleeps only 2 hours a day since he holds 2 jobs, and considers Brickfields a dangerous place. To his credit, he did say that the area he guards is VERY SAFE! :)

I've gone clubbing (finally) with the trainees in malaysia... Cover charge is really high here because alcohol (and perhaps clubbing) is a sin so they must deter the locals. Still, the fact that Bukit Bintang is swarming on a Friday night is a clear sign that the high prices will still pull in the wealthy locals and foreigners in Malaysia.

Cab drivers are mostly mad. I say I get a mad driver 7 out of the 10 times that I have gotten into a cab. Mad because of the way they drive, and the mad cackles of laughter as they swerve through traffic. Or maybe it's just me.

I've had 5 roommates now -- Anita (USA), Mitch (Philippines), Christian (Colombia), Andrea (Colombia) and Bart (Netherlands) and have been able to enjoy their company and housemate-ship in the last few months. I do have to admit that I wasn't quite prepared for the flow of people through my life, makes it hard to keep track after awhile.

I travel back to Singapore every 3 weeks partly because of my visa situation, and well I want to see my parents and the cats. My brother is now in the army so that sucks...still it's good he's learning "to be a man". Hah!

I won't talk about what I do at work here or the blog gets too long. You've got to go to laiywong.blinklife.com to find out about that aspect but my colleagues are cool, and I do enjoy sitting on a couch to work with the laptop. Yes, they do spoil us at MindValley. :)

I just joined the gym much of it due to Alberto's enthusiasm for exercise. To his credit and my one time personal fitness instructor* (I "fired" him because he said I was weak!), I am motivated to build strength and lift the 5 kg bags of rice they sell in the supermarket. heh.

* I didn't "fire" the guy, more like I couldn't afford his lessons.

That's about it...Kip has visited me so far (semester at sea) and I am looking forward to meeting Poh and Lynn (@ MI-ers who sort of live in KL) this weekend.

More stories coming up...
