Step 2: When Step 1 fails because your parents want to play golf in Malaysia...ask your brother for help!
I should be studying!! A take home due tomorrow! Ahh!But I feel i must keep up with this blogging activity since it's gonna serve as a testimony of my efforts in having a crazy summer. hee!
So I finally called home today (after spending $10 on a calling card). It's 11pm in Singapore, the time when my parents unsuccessfully try to watch the news every night because they are sleeping. Anyway, I manage to speak with my dad and convey that my passport is on its way home (but I am not) and that someone must be home on Thursday at noon because that's when it will arrive.
After leaving a long string of instructions of applying for my visa to India, I hear my dad mumble "okay, send email" (That's functional speak for you! He's so good at getting to the point in 3 words!) I make a victory sign because Daddy dearest didn't protest my irresponsible behavior this timel. I was so wrong!
I get a call at about 8.50pm EST, that's about 8.50am in Singapore the next day. It's Daddy and he's not very happy. Apparently he made the connection about my passport arriving while he slept and must have had some nightmares. We begin the conversation like this...
Dad: (Yelling over the phone) Girl! Why do you want to go to India!? It's not economical! You'll be coming out to work in a few months! Waste money only!
Me: Urm, it's for experience; I haven't been to India and I know I won't have a chance to go in future.
Dad: Aiyah...experience?! You can get experience when you come out to work! Who's paying for your air ticket?
Me: Daijie ( that's my sister who works in UK)
Dad: Anyway, I am not going to be able to guarantee your visa I tell you! Your mummy and I are going to Malacca on Friday morning!"
Me: Huh? I'll get John to do it then.
Phone conversation ends in 5 mins...but like all good Asian people, never take the words at face value. Sigh, my dad is not a happy camper at this point because I have managed to get around the system by getting my sister to pay for my trip.
And who is John? That's my brother aka "Shitty boy". He's 19 this year and is not the most motivated person in the world. The last time I told him to pass a present to my friend for her 21st birthday, it took him 9 months to get down to doing it. And that was only because I was back in Singapore over Spring break and physically abused him (pulled his ear) for not doing it earlier.
Step 2: off to talk to John!
